Our company history.
Decades of experience as a chef in the Army, stationed all over the world, translated into a passion for high food safety standards and a new career direction for Alan Manship, founder and company director of AMCAS Training Ltd.
Alan has some fascinating stories to tell of his years catering for soldiers on the ground, and dignitaries at high profile MOD events – he’s even cooked for the Queen and other members of the Royal family.
While he loves all aspects of catering, Alan is first and foremost an advocate of the necessity for food hygiene – something that was drilled into him in his Army career.
When he left military service after 34 years Alan settled down in Warminster, Wiltshire and decided to give something back to the food industry he loves: for him the perfect way was to set up a food safety training business.
AMCAS Training Ltd has gone from strength to strength, providing flexible, bespoke food hygiene and safety courses for all sorts of individuals and groups around Wiltshire and Somerset, and beyond. Alan takes his knowledge and carefully crafted training courses into kitchens, factories, classrooms, restaurants and anywhere else that food is prepared to teach the essential food safety principles to eager, appreciative students.
What Alan enjoys more than anything about his role is being able to meet and interact with fellow “foodies”. He has chosen to work with Highfield – leading suppliers of compliance training materials and qualifications – and has become accredited to deliver their renowned catering and manufacturing food safety award courses. With his vast and varied experience, Alan has also designed his own training courses, designed to help food producers and operatives improve their food hygiene rating, aiming for those all-important five stars.
His approach is not only to deliver high quality training, but also to do it in an inspirational way, using his friendly manner, good communication skills, patience and calm demeanour to good advantage.
The result has become a food safety success story – with a growing and glowing list of testimonials from satisfied students at all levels of the food industry, and recognition from the Federation of Small Business and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, Alan has proved the worth and advantages of AMCAS Training.
Alan explains that anyone who prepares food for consumption – even a small kitchen cottage industry – needs to know at the very least the basics of food safety and hygiene to prevent disasters like food poisoning and allergies. This is not only to prevent consumers from suffering these harmful afflictions, but also to preserve the reputation of food businesses.
He’s keen to help you succeed in your food-related enterprises, whether you need training yourself, for your entry level staff or refresher courses for supervisors and managers. Alan also has many course sign-ups from young people planning careers in catering or food manufacturing, because obtaining food safety qualifications in advance is advantageous when applying for suitable positions in the industry.
